The Town of Qualicum Beach will get some help improving its development review processes.
A grant of more than $296K was received from the province to develop a unique ‘development review toolkit’ to deal with the matter.
The town will collaborate with Vancouver Island University and other B.C. municipalities to gather and document best practices and resources from a full scope of development application participants and develop a toolkit of resources for development applications and review processes.
The outcomes are designed to improve the quality of development applications, the efficiency of municipal application reviews and communication between all participants involved in the process for Qualicum Beach. This toolkit will be scalable, adaptable, and available to all other small B.C. communities. Outcomes will include the development of forms, guides, processes, and recommendations.

“Our planning department and processes are integral to life in Qualicum Beach, and the end results of this project will hopefully have a huge impact on reducing permit processing timeframes in the town,” said Mayor Brian Wiese.
The town acknowledged the funding provided the province, administered by the UBCM, under their Local Government Development Approvals program.
Opportunity for public input will be available as the process progresses and more information will be available at www.qualicumbeach.com/toolkit.
