Parksville Qualicum Beach is about to receive a significant boost for tourism support.
In a public release issued on March 29 by the NDP caucus, MLA Adam Walker said $1,015,000 will be provided in funding to help develop tourism infrastructure, attract visitors and provide good-paying jobs in the Town of Qualicum Beach and the City of Parksville.
“The tourism industry drives our local economy and COVID-19 has put a lot of pressure on people and businesses,” said Walker, MLA for Parksville-Qualicum. “This funding will create jobs, build more welcoming spaces for visitors for when we’re able to travel, and solidify Qualicum Beach and Parksville as the world-class destinations locals know them to be.”

According to the release, Qualicum Beach will receive $700,000 for waterfront expansion in parking, mobile vendor amenities, covered seating, overnight RV parking spaces and to provide a public washroom.
Parksville will receive $315,000 for the Parksville Community Park playground resurfacing and expansion project.
In the release, Walker said the funding will not only support individuals working in tourism but also help to grow the local economy.
