The business person, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated $500 toward replacing the stolen flags, according to a news release from the Qualicum Beach Rotary.

“This generous act has buoyed the spirits of the club members who will continue to serve the Oceanside area in supporting family and youth initiatives. Thank you to all those people who, over these past few days, have expressed their regret to our members regarding this costly theft to the club,” said past-president Gordon Mebs in the news release.

“Our members hope that those responsible will will have a ‘twinge of guilt’, and return the flags to Rotary House located at the corner of Beach and Fern (roads).”

The flags were stolen Canada Day during the celebrations in Parksville.

The Rotary club had placed the flags the morning of Canada Day, and when club members went to collect them the same evening, about a dozen flags and flag poles were stolen along Memorial Avenue.

Mebs said the thefts could cost the club between $400 and $500.
