Bus drivers in Quesnel will get a safety boost in the coming weeks.
Full driver doors will be installed in BC Transit vehicles to create a barrier between driver and passenger.
“The full driver door is a movable barrier situated to the right of the driver’s seat near the fare box and is designed to increase protection for our drivers,” a news release from BC Transit reads. “It includes a transparent piece of laminated tempered glass with anti-glare coating and metal base. The full driver door window can be adjusted to account for sightlines associated with different seat positions.”
Buses in Quesnel only have a vinyl panel acting as a protective barrier right now. The new doors will be put in over two days.
BC Transit is planning on installing the doors on 633 buses across 34 transit systems by early November.
Buses in Dawson Creek will be the next ones to get the driver doors. All new buses in BC Transit will come with the door already installed.
