Quesnel crime rate almost four times national average in 2017

It was also more than 2.5 times the average crime rate in B.C.

According to the newly updated Canadian Community Crime Tracker from StatsCan, Quesnel had a crime rate of almost four times the national average, and more than two and a half times the B.C. average in 2017.

Crime within the City of Quesnel averages at 20,038.24 crimes committed per 100,000 people.

Meanwhile, the national crime rate is 5,334.04 per 100,000 people, and the B.C. crime rate is 7,416.63 per 100,000 people.

Quesnel’s crime rate also experienced an increase from 2016 to 2017, going from 19,227.67 per 100,000 people to 20,038.24 per 100,000 in 2017.

Prince George and Williams Lake also have substantially higher crime rates than the national average.

In Prince George, the crime rate was 16,059.09 per 100,000 people in 2017, a lower average than Quesnel. However, Prince George did experience a higher growth in crime between 2016 and 2017, increasing from 14,559.79 to 16,059.9 per 100,000 people.

Williams Lake had a higher crime rate than Quesnel in 2017, with an average crime rate of 21,907.70 per 100,000 people. However, Williams Lake had a substantial decline in crime from 2016, when they averaged at 25,323.77 per 100,000 people.
