The city of Quesnel is planning to conduct a controlled burn near the South Hills Subdivision.
The effort is part of the Community Wildfire Protection plan and is planned for April 1 – 3 at . The burning will only take place if air quality is good, according to a city of Quesnel news release. The work will be done on a city property leased for livestock grazing.
“Residents in the area will hear crews working with power saws and mobile wood chippers, and may experience smoke during burning of piles,” it notes.
The controlled burn will reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire, improve forest health and protect recreation values, the news release reads.
“Controlled burning generates less smoke than out-of-control wildfires and helps us proactively take measures to prevent disasters, which is more affordable than reactively having to recover from them,” an email from the city reads.
