Students in Quesnel and across Canada delivered a similar result to the federal election in Student Vote.
Students from six schools in Quesnel cast 651 ballots in the student vote, with incumbent Conservative Party of Canada candidate Todd Doherty winning 35 per cent.
The NDP’s Audrey McKinnon got 29 per cent of the vote, Green Party of Canada candidate Leigh Husinger-Chang got 16 per cent and Jeremy Gustafson from the People’s Party of Canada got nine per cent. Liberal Garth Frizzell also received nine per cent, and Henry Thiessen from the Christian Heritage Party of Canada got two per cent.
Over half of Quesnel’s student votes came from Correlieu Secondary School, with various elementary schools around the district also participating. Correlieu’s students cast the third most votes across the riding, with Lake City Secondary’s Columneetza and Williams Lake Campuses the only schools to submit more ballots.

Those results were similar to students across the Cariboo-Prince George riding, who cast a total of 2,897 ballots in the student vote.
The riding which includes Quesnel, Williams Lake and Vanderhoof was one of four B.C. ridings where the Conservative candidate received the most votes. More than 140,000 votes were cast in the student vote in the province, with the NDP picking up the most B.C. seats.
The student vote also matched up with national numbers, with the Liberals winning the most ridings with 24 per cent of the national vote, but not enough to form a majority government if the student vote decided the House of Commons makeup.
The NDP received the most votes of any party, winning in 106 ridings, and receiving 28 per cent of all student votes. The Conservatives also received more votes than the Liberals, with 25 per cent.
The Student Vote is a program giving students a hands on look at the voting process in Canada.
