Quesnel’s daily rate of COVID-19 cases sixth highest in province last week

The most recent wave of COVID-19 has hit Quesnel hard

Cases of COVID-19 in Quesnel continue to reach weekly highs.

In the week from Sept. 12 and 18, Northern Health detected 76 cases of COVID-19 in the Quesnel local health area according to B.C. Centre for Disease Control data.

Over 20 people per 100,000 are detected as having the virus each day of that week. Most areas across Northern B.C. have similar case levels.

Quesnel’s daily case count per 100,000 people is approaching 50, according to BCCDC data. Only Enderby, Fort Nelson, Smithers, Upper Skeena and Nechako have higher daily rates of COVID-19 cases.

Quesnel’s vaccination rate also continues to place in the bottom half of local health areas across the province. As of Sept. 21, only 73 per cent of eligible people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Quesnel’s case count throughout the pandemic has remained low throughout the pandemic until now. A graph showing the rate of average daily cases show’s the most recent wave of COVID-19 in Quesnel is at least three times higher than at any other point in the pandemic.
