The weather helped a lot, but Qualicum Beach resident Barry Furneaux largely credits re-mineralization with the record success of his and wife Donna’s garden this year.
“We’re getting 7.5-pound broccoli, 10 pound cauliflower, all the brassicas (cabbage family) are huge,” he said of the best crop they remember in their 48 years gardening on the property.
The couple proudly showed off their largest, a 15 pound cabbage that Donna said was quite sweet and delicious.
Barry said the warm temperatures made the tomatoes and squash better, but really credits their work with drip lines, organic fertilizer and careful re-mineralization.
