I moved to the Cariboo in 1994, and before I knew it, I was involved in my community and volunteer activities.
I have demonstrated my leadership qualities by becoming involved in forming a fire department in Canim Lake where one did not exist.
I was involved in the Fire Protection Society from 1994 to 2009 and became president in 1996. The society formed an independent fire department in 1998 with a grant from the CRD.
Upon formation, I became the Fire Chief in 1998 until the amalgamation of this fire department with the Forest Grove Fire Department in 2008. Since the formation of the new fire department, I have been a Deputy Fire Chief of the Forest Grove Fire Department. Since 2006, I have been licensed as a Level 3 First Responder.
During this period, I became involved with the Forest Grove 94 Lions. I became a member of the Lions in 1996 and served two terms as president.
The Lions resurrected the Ruth Lake Community Park after it was closed by the provincial government. Lions members installed picnic tables and a log picnic shelter and maintain this park for community users.
We also cut, split and deliver firewood to people in need, raise funds for families in need, and re-established the Forest Grove Elementary School.
People have told me the challenges facing the Area H communities are the need for increased water and sewage disposal capabilities, landfill and recycling options, a proposed senior centre, the importance of schools in our communities, high visibility of home address signs and are concerned about increased taxes.
If I am elected as your CRD Director, I will listen to all of your concerns, research information relating to the problems you bring to my attention, and promise to respond to these concerns. I will give you reasons why certain decisions are made regarding your concerns and I promise to get back to you with answers!
