It’s not known what will happen with plans to purchase the Canadian National rail corridor between Coldstream and Kelowna.
More than 10 per cent of Lake Country voters (931 people) signed a petition opposed to the municipality borrowing $2.6 million to purchase the portion of the track within that municipality.
“I’m disappointed,” said Mayor James Baker.
Under legislation, 10 per cent of voters had to sign an alternative approval process petition to block borrowing of the funds.
Lake Country council will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss its options, including possibly a referendum.
The negotiated price for the corridor is $22 million, with the other participants being the Regional District of North Okanagan and Kelowna.
