Kelowna city hall says motorists should expect traffic interruptions over the next month on Spall Road and Dilworth Drive as city crews connect the new phase of the Rails with Trails pathway east of Spall to the the existing stretch on the westside of the road.

The new phase will add an additional 1.5 kilometres to the multi-use pathway.

Starting  May 7, intermittent nighttime lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Spall at Clement Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained.

As of May 9, intermittent daytime lane closures—between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.—will occur on Dilworth Drive at Leckie Road. Alternating traffic will be maintained there as well.

Rails with Trails is a paved, off-road multi-use pathway located parallel to the CNR corridor from the downtown North End to Spall alongside Clement Avenue. The new phase will continue alongside the rail tracks, east from Spall to Dilworth.

The pathway offers residents and visitors a safe and accessible pathway that is ideal for walking, in-line skating, commuter and recreational cycling.

Construction on the second phase began in August 2013 and is expected to be complete by the end of this month. An official opening is planned for early June.

Funding for phase two of the Rails with Trails pathway includes $1.46 million from the federal Gas Tax Fund and $1.52 million from the province’s Bike BC.
