  • Nov. 3, 2017 12:00 a.m.

Richard Hayter, Chris Knudsen and Bob Calhoun, in front, were recognized as Volunteers of the Year for their efforts at the Kettle Valley Steam Railway, during the Volunteer Recognition Celebration Oct. 20 at the Rodeo Grounds.

Gerry Conrad, president, in back, presented the awards.

Knudsen, host volunteer coordinator, staffs the coaches and hosts.

Hayter, Calhoun and Sjoerd Zanstra (missing from photo) work behind the scenes as handymen on the train’s off days fixing and repairing what’s needed. Polishing the coaches and restoring the baggage cart were among the major projects. Volunteers are an important and valuable part of the steam railway.
