A Canada- wide warrant has been re-issued for an inmate who escaped in 2008 from the minimum-security Ferndale Institution in Mission and has not yet been found.
The warrant was re-issued on Monday (April 4) for Blane Donald MacDougal, 68, who is wanted for one count of escaping lawful custody.
MacDougal walked away from the Mission prison in April 2008. His criminal history includes convictions for murder, indecent assault, sexual assault with a weapon, and kidnapping.
MacDougal’s crimes date back decades and include escaping from custody in 1968 – when he was serving time for property offences – and fleeing to the U.S. in a stolen car.
While there, he and a hitchhiker robbed three gay men they picked up in bars, and one of them died of exposure after being left in a field after the robbery.
MacDougal received a 35-year sentence for murder, and served 10 years in a Texas prison before being transferred to Canada.
In 1979, he twice raped women – in separate incidents on the same day – while on day parole. Two days after being granted full parole in 1989, he kidnapped and raped another woman.
After that conviction, MacDougal was declared a dangerous offender.
Warrants for his arrest were previously in place, but police will often re-issue them when a wanted person is not found.
He is described as Caucasian, six feet tall and 164 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
