A new face has stepped up to the helm of the Coldstream Ratepayers’ Association.
Norm Hladun has been elected president of the group, while past president Steve Heeren will continue on as a member.
“I wasn’t actually a member,” said Hladun, who came forward after learning the CRA needed a new president.
“I like to be involved in the community and know what’s happening.”
Hladun, 71, has lived in Coldstream since 1990, after he retired in his 40s from his international banking career.
Born in Vancouver, Hladun used to holiday in the Vernon and Coldstream area.
“I just fell in love with it here,” said the member of the former Kalavista Neighbourhood Advisory Committee.
While no definite plans have been set out yet, Hladun expects his position won’t be too onerous considering the CRA’s satisfaction with council.
“It’s not going to be terribly involved over the next three or four years. In Coldstream at least.”
But the members will be keeping an eye on one particular regional issue.
“For certain we’ll be following the water situation.”
Hladun has also suggested that a more formal relationship be established with the Lavington Community Association.
“I think that’s something that would be helpful,” said Hladun of periodic meetings between the two groups.
“Lavington is an integral part of Coldstream.
“And we’re all ratepayers in Coldstream.”
