HOPE RCMP UPDATE BY STAFF SGT. KAROL REHDNER
Hope RCMP saw a rise in calls for service within the downtown core of Hope. With better weather coming there will be more people taking advantage of the park and visiting the surrounding businesses, so this was anticipated.
Concerns have been raised regarding speeding vehicles on Flood Hope Road in the vicinity of Silver Creek Elementary School. Hope RCMP will seek to conduct pro-active enforcement in this area and all Hope school locations. This is a reminder to all to be cautious in and around our local schools and stay within the posted 30 km/h speed zone postings during the designated times.
Hope RCMP responded to complaints of graffiti this week. This is a senseless crime that is in extremely poor taste. Additionally it creates unnecessary work and expense for the property owners. It is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. These are the behind the scenes people that answer the phones when a call for service to police, fire or ambulance is made. They are the first line of contact and do their utmost to calm a situation and ensure that the appropriate assistance is on the way. They are an invaluable asset to first responders and they truly deserve the recognition that this week highlights. Thank you never seems to be enough, but it is all we have.
Hope RCMP also reminds people not to leave valuables in their cars, as Staff. Sgt. Rehdner wrote “It provides too much of a temptation for a criminal to break into a vehicle and steal someone’s belongings, ie. cell phones, laptop computers, iPads, passports, wallets, purses.”
HOPE SEARCH AND RESCUE UPDATE
Nothing to report said search and rescue manager Mario Levesque, except the Hope Search and Rescue (HSAR) participation in the April 1 Easter Egg Hunt. HSAR members dropped easter eggs around the Silver Creek Elementary schoolyard and ended up picking up a gift of their own. They received $5,000 from the Hope Lions Club, which will be used for headsets and a wireless device for the team’s rescue boat.
HOPE FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Nothing to report from the fire department, but fire chief Tom DeSorcy is reminding residents the Alert Ready nationwide emergency alert system is now in operation across the country. For more information visit alertready.ca.
