RCMP hosts Block Watch information session

A Block Watch information session is being hosted by Nanaimo RCMP in Cedar.

A Block Watch information session is being hosted by Nanaimo RCMP in Cedar.

The session will share information with residents about how to combat crime by setting up additional Block Watch chapters in their neighbourhoods.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said there is just one Block Watch chapter in Cedar, but residents have expressed interest in setting up more.

O’Brien, who is also Nanaimo’s Block Watch coordinator, will make the presentation and answer questions afterward.

Several Block Watch captains will also be on hand to talk about the program’s successes and the ease of establishing new chapters.

Block Watch is a crime prevention and deterrent program that reduces neighbourhood crime by relying on dialogue between neighbours who communicate suspicious activity with each other and police.

The session happens Wednesday (Dec. 7) at 7 p.m. at Cedar Heritage Hall, 1644 MacMillan Rd.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.
