Vanderhoof RCMP are seeking witnesses to an assault that occurred in the middle of the day, Monday, at a popular walking trail.
A 17-year-old girl was walking on the W.L. McLeod wetlands near the elementary school and Nechako Valley Secondary between 1 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 when she was pushed from behind by an unknown man and assaulted.
She suffered minor injuries, police said in Dec. 4 media release.
She reported it to school officials, who contacted police.
Mounties said they spoke to several individuals who matched the suspect’s description, but no one was officially identified.
The suspect is described as having short brown hair, wearing dark jeans and a black and red jacket.
“Stranger assaults are very unusual in our community,” said Sgt. Rodney Guthrie in the release. “We are treating this as a priority investigation.”
The RCMP are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the W.L. McLeod wetland on Monday from noon until 4 pm, to contact police if they have any information at 250-567-2222.
