The Prince Rupert RCMP are looking for any information about a disturbing discovery at the Rushbrook dock on Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., RCMP received two calls from the public informing them that several dead cats were located in the water by Rushbrook Floats. The informants said the cats were skinned and thrown into the water.

When the police arrived, they were able to net one of the animals and noticed it didn’t appear to be a cat. After attending the animal shelter and speaking to a local expert who examined the animal, it was confirmed it was not a cat but a marten, which was trapped for its fur.

The Prince Rupert SPCA office also has been made aware of the incident. They posted on Facebook on Saturday, asking people to call their cruelty hotline at 1-855-622-7722 as well as to direct calls to the RCMP.

The RCMP would like to hear from anyone who has information about this chilling discovery. Please call the RCMP at 250-627-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
