Weapons charge
On Jan. 24, Joshua Timothy Reese, 33, of Chase, was convicted of one count of possession of a firearm contrary to order. In addition to jail time, Reese received a lifetime prohibition on possessing firearms and other restricted weapons, and a victim surcharge of $200. The conviction related to a search warrant executed by Chase RCMP officers in March 2016 at Reese’s residence in which a loaded customized firearm was located, along with numerous gun parts and ammunition. At the time of the search warrant, Reese was the subject of a mandatory prohibition order which banned him from possessing firearms and other weapons for 10 years. Reese has been remanded until his next court appearance on Feb. 7 in regard to theft charges.

Fish-tailing
On Dec. 23 about 10 a.m., police were notified of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near the Highway 97 junction. Chase RCMP responded. The driver of a Toyota Tercel had attempted to overtake a Dodge pick-up truck towing a U-Haul trailer, when the trailer suddenly began to fish-tail, striking the Tercel.
The Tercel was then forced into contact with the truck and both vehicles slid into the centre grass median. The man driving the Tercel was checked by BC Ambulance paramedics and released at the scene. Road conditions were slippery at the time.
Slippery crash
On Dec. 24 at 12 p.m., Chase RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 at Little River Road near Sorrento.
The male driver was the single occupant. He stated that as he was travelling east, the back of the truck suddenly fishtailed on the slippery road and he lost control, crossing the oncoming lane and into the westbound ditch, where the vehicle rolled onto its side.
The driver was not injured, and road conditions were a factor in the crash.
