The Oceanside RCMP are looking for a suspect who reportedly assaulted a senior citizen in Qualicum Beach on Saturday, March 10.
The 68-year-old woman was out for a walk at about 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Hoylake Rd., between Alder and Arbutus streets, when she said hello to a male who was walking in the opposite direction and smoking marijuana, according to Cpl. Jesse Foreman in an RCMP news release.
Moments after greeting the passing man, “she was pushed to the ground by the same man,” reads the release. “After she hit the ground, she screamed and the man placed his hand over her mouth. The man then got up and fled north down the lane and out of sight.”
While Oceanside RCMP have conducted neighbourhood enquiries, it has not identified the suspect. He’s described as being Caucasian with a darker complexion, 5-foot-7, between 35 and 45 years old with a heavy build, dark hair and a handlebar moustache. He was wearing jeans, a plaid shirt and a dark grey thermal vest, according to the news release.
The investigation is ongoing and active, RCMP added.
Anyone who might have been on the laneway or who observed the suspect is asked to call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 with any info that could assist in the investigation.
