Nakusp RCMP have now released the names of two men critically injured in a pickup truck rollover north of Nakusp on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Cst. Mark Macaulay identified the men as Daryl Travis Thomson, 25, of Revelstoke, B.C. and Philip George Walker, 37, or Trail, B.C.

Both men remain in critical condition in Vancouver General Hospital. Police have not been able to interview either of the individuals involved in the single-vehicle crash due to the seriousness of their injuries.

The investigation into the incident is continuing. “Alcohol is believed to be a factor,” the RCMP said in a statement. “It is also suspected that the driver was not wearing a seat-belt.”

Staff-Sgt. Dan Seibel of the RCMP Kootenay-Boundary Regional Detachment says police are continuing will all aspects of the investigation. “There’s a lot of pieces that have to come together,” Seibel said. RCMP are still trying to determine a ‘time of driving’ and exactly when the crash occurred. The single-vehicle MVI was discovered by a passerby at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, but the vehicle was off to the side of the road and could have been there for some hours.

They are not positive who was driving the vehicle, but suspect that Thomson was. If so, Thomson could face charges for driving while prohibited due to an earlier suspension that happened just hours before this crash. “We are going to pursue all of the charges that are possible,” said Seibel.

RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance,” “If anyone witnessed the collision or has information regarding this incident, please contact Cst. Mark Macaulay at the Nakusp RCMP Detachment, at (250) 265-3677,” they stated.
