Brass knuckles found in car
On Nov. 23, at approximately 2 a.m., Golden RCMP were doing foot patrols in the area of Spirit Square.
During the patrol they noticed a vehicle parked in a no parking zone.
The officers went over to inform the driver (who was in the vehicle) the vehicle had to be moved, but while talking, the person showed signs of intoxication.
After an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used, the person involved failed the test, and the Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs) Program was instituted. The person’s license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. During a search of the vehicle, officers found brass knuckles which are a prohibited weapon in Canada.
The person was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon as well.
Hitching a ride
On Nov. 24 at at approximately 10:56 a.m. the RCMP were informed about a suspicious female hitchhiking near Anderson Road in Golden. Upon attending, members from the detachment concluded it was a male dressed in a red dress, wearing black tights, a women’s winter coat, scarf, and a wig.
The person had been kicked off a bus for being intoxicated. Once the RCMP determined the person was doing OK, they continued on their way.
Full Moon spotted by RCMP in Spirit Square
On Nov. 25 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Golden RCMP were doing patrols in Spirit Square after the bars had closed and found a male passed out in the middle of the square. RCMP found the male to be extremely intoxicated but coherent. As they were talking to the male another person standing on the reservoir “mooned” the officers. The officers went to talk to this person who was also extremely intoxicated. Both people were taken to the RCMP detachment where they were held until they sobered up.
No free rides
On Nov. 26 at 12:30 a.m. the RCMP received a phone call from Mount 7 Taxi. A driver informed police that a male who had used the taxi service to get home had not paid his fare.
RCMP went to the scene and talked to the male in the house. They were greeted by an intoxicated male who seemed surprised that he had forgotten to pay. The male gladly paid for the fare.
Dog bites vehicle There was an animal call to the RCMP dealing with a dog on a residential property.
A person from BC Hydro was checking meters in a rural area. The residence in question was known to have vicious dogs on the property. When the worker went on the driveway the dogs appeared. Making the decision not to continue on to the property, the worker started backing the van off the property. The dogs started biting at the tires of the vehicle and ended up popping one of the tires on the vehicle.
RCMP remind people they are responsible for their animals and can be liable for damages they cause.
Two vehicle crash There was a serious accident approximately 40 kilometres west of Golden on Nov. 29. A semi trailer and a U-Haul cube van were both involved. Upon arriving members of the RCMP found the semi trailer engulfed in flames and the cube van had gone over an embankment and gone down 30 feet. Witnesses were able to pull two people of the semi but it took the Golden Fire Department about two hours to extract a grandmother and her 11-year-old granddaughter out of the cube van. The mother of the child was in another vehicle which was following the cube van and she witnessed the accident. Both the grandmother and child suffered multiple broken bones as did one of the people in the semi truck. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.
Missed calls
RCMP would like to remind people who are staying at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort to be careful when dialling long distance as a number of 911 hang ups go up from the resort at this time of the year.
