911 hang up issues continue

The RCMP had to deal with six 911hangups this week. Many of these seem to happen when people leave their phones on in their pockets. The RCMP would like to remind people that these hangups take up valuable resources.

People are reminded to lock their phones to avoid pocket dials.

If a pocket dial does happen please answer the phone when the RCMP call back to ensure everything is fine.

A case of fraud

05-04-2013

RCMP were informed by a local citizen who received a cheque in the mail that advised him to put the cheque in the bank and then go to a number of stores to purchase specific items.

The information said the person could keep the products and submit a report on the customer service he/she received.

The person would then submit the report and return the extra money from the cheque.

The RCMP referred the case to Phonebusters, and would like to inform local people that there are many different types of fraud being employed right now.

If you think that someone is attempting to perpetrate a fraudulent act against you, please contact local RCMP.

Two vehicle accidents on highway

RCMP responded to two motor vehicle accidents on the highway. Both were single vehicle accidents. The first accident happened 23 kilometres east of Golden.

A vehicle had left the highway and ended up in a ditch. The RCMP contacted a local towing company that helped pull the vehicle out of a ditch. The car was not damaged and the driver continued on his way.

The second accident involved a tractor trailer.

However, the police were informed on their way out to the accident site that the driver had moved his vehicle back on the highway and had already left the scene.
