Dog on the Loose
In the early afternoon of Nov. 1, police responded to a reported dog running in an out of traffic on Highway 1 on the Golden Hill.
The dog had reportedly gone missing over night after being spooked by Halloween Fireworks.
Motorists were stopping on the highway, trying to catch the dog, which was causing a potential for a collision to occur.
An officer attended and successfully apprehended the dog, but not before the scared dog bit the officer.
Wildlife on Roads
A deer was struck on Highway 1 at the scales on Oct. 30.
Police would like to remind motorists that there is a lot of wildlife on the roads this time of year. There have been a few deer struck in the last week in Yoho Park and before that a bear in Glacier.
Debris on Highway
On Oct. 30 a motorist was traveling on Highway 95 when he struck a large rock on the road, which is estimated to be 50-80 lbs.
The impact blew out both passenger side tires on the truck and dislodged his canopy, which flew off into the oncoming lane and struck the front of the vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. There were no injuries.
Jack-knifed Semi
Police responded to a jack knifed semi on Field hill on Nov. 4.
At about 4:30 a.m., the east bound fully-loaded semi lost traction on the road surface.
It was snowing at the time and the road was covered with snow and slush. There were no injuries or damage in this incident, and the semi was towed the remaining distance up the hill.
The snow has begun to fall on the higher elevations in both Glacier and Yoho National Parks so take caution when travelling on the highways.
Damage at Lake
The picnic area at Reflection Lake has sustained extensive damage.
The lawn area has been torn up by an unknown vehicle which did multiple doughnuts. Anyone with information is asked to call the Golden RCMP.
Dangerous Driving
Lake Louise and Golden RCMP received reports of an erratic speeding vehicle on Nov. 5.
The white Ford F150, which had Saskatchewan plates, was speeding excessively and passing on double solids.
An officer confirmed the vehicle’s speed at one point at 157 km per hour in a 90 zone.
The vehicle evaded police on the highway but sustained some damage when it struck the cement barrier coming down the Golden Hill on Hwy 1.
Witnesses saw the vehicle pull into town and relayed up to date information on where the vehicle was last scene. Police saturated the area and located the driver walking in an alley.
The male attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody and is facing a number of charges including Dangerous Driving under the Criminal Code.
