RCMP report: March 22-28

Vandalism, impaired drivers, excessive speed

The Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a second propane theft within days on March 22. It was reported, sometime overnight, an unknown person had broken into a propane tank locker at a business on the 4600 block of Cumberland Road, in Cumberland. Eight propane tanks were stolen. Vehicles vandalized

Windshield smashed

On March 23, it was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP, that sometime overnight, a brick had been thrown through a vehicle windshield on the 4700 block of McLauchlin Place, Courtenay. Another drunk off the road

While on patrol in Courtenay, during the morning of March 23, a vehicle was stopped for a driving infraction. During the traffic stop, an impaired investigation was quickly started by the Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic member. It was found that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Excessive speed

While conducting speed enforcement on Highway 19 at Cook Creek Crossing, a vehicle was stopped for going 136 km/h in the 90 km/h zone by a member of the Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic section. The driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Refusing to blow

On March 24, a vehicle was spotted being driven in a suspicious manner on 17th Avenue, Courtenay. A traffic stop was initiated and an impaired driving investigation was started. The driver refused to provide a breath sample, as such was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Business B&E

A business break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on March 25. Overnight, unknown person(s) had broken into a business on the 2100 block of Lalum Road, Black Creek. A quantity of cash and tools were stolen. Speeding into Courtenay

A Comox Valley RCMP constable was parked roadside on the Comox Valley Parkway, doing report writing on March 25. A vehicle was noted to be driving at a high rate of speed heading towards Courtenay. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 135 km/h in the 80 km/h zone, 54 km/h over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
