RCMP report: Vehicle thefts and break ins continue

Man arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

A 36-year-old man is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property following an incident Feb. 16 on Jermyn Avenue.

Police say about 6 p.m. a man reported seeing his previously stolen 2002 brown Chevrolet Malibu in the area of the 500-block of the street.

The man reportedly observed two females inside the car, one of who left and went to her own car parked nearby. When police arrived they found a number of stolen items inside the vehicle, including a large screen television reportedly stolen from a residence several hours earlier and a laptop computer.

The man was also found to be in possession of a substantial amount of drugs. He was arrested and later released and the women, aged 20 and 32, were released without charges.

Rash of break-ins

RCMP are also investigating a rash of break ins and thefts that took place sometime overnight on Feb. 19.

That included break ins and attempted thefts from three vehicles in the areas of Troy Place, Halifax Street and Hemlock Street. A Chevrolet 150 pickup with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition was also taken from Dawson Avenue but was later recovered in Osoyoos.

The same night two Sea-Can containers were broken into at construction sites in the 2900 and 3000-block of Skaha Lake Rd. From the one container an estimated $4,000 in tools were taken, including some with the engraving of “E. Phillips Construction.” The value of the tools from the other site was not available.
