While driving behind a vehicle the morning of April 5, a Comox Valley RCMP constable could smell the distinctive odour of marijuana. A traffic stop was initiated and an impaired driving by drug investigation was started. The driver had, in fact, been smoking marijuana while driving. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. An amount of marijuana and paraphernalia was seized.
School zone speed check
On April 6, a Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section member conducted a two-hour school zone speed check, on Guthrie Road near Brooklyn Elementary School, in Comox. Eleven drivers were issued violation tickets for speeding. The Comox Valley RCMP reminds all drivers to slow down in school zones. Drivers can face fine amounts ranging from $196 to $253.
Racing up Ryan Road
While on driving down Ryan Road hill, on April 6, a Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic section constable noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed towards him. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 105 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Rash of vehicle vandalism
The Comox Valley RCMP received several complaints of mischief to vehicles over the weekend. It was reported that sometime overnight, from April 7 to April 8, an unknown person(s) had slashed the tire on a vehicle parked on the 1000 block of Edgett Road, Courtenay. Then between April 8 and April 10, several vehicles were egged in the areas of 2100 Piercy Avenue, 1600 block of Crown Isle Drive and the 3800 block of Royston Road.
Driver reports a drunk
On April 9, a concerned driver had noticed some poor driving habits of another driver, in Courtenay. A call to the Comox Valley RCMP was made, and the vehicle was located. During the traffic stop, an impaired driving investigation was started. It was determined the driver of the suspect vehicle had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Graffiti in Cumberland
The Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a mischief that occurred on the 2600 block of Windermere Avenue, Cumberland, on April 11. Sometime overnight, unknown person(s) had spray painted graffiti on a building. The investigation to identify the suspects is continuing.
