Seven impaired drivers caught in 72-hour span

While conducting cell phone enforcement, on Feb. 16, in the 2100 block of Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, a traffic stop was conducted with a driver using a cell phone. It was soon discovered that the driver was driving while prohibited and the vehicle insurance had expired. The driver was arrested for driving while prohibited, then released on a promise to appear for a court date in May. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for no driver’s licence, use of an electronic device while driving and no insurance. The vehicle was also impounded.

Seven impaired drivers

Feb. 17 was extremely busy for the Comox Valley RCMP dealing with impaired drivers. That day alone, five vehicle stops were conducted and the investigations revealed that the drivers had been driving after drinking alcohol. Four drivers received 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions and one driver received a 24-hour driving prohibition. All vehicles were impounded. Two more intoxicated drivers were stopped on Feb. 18 and 20, and issued 90-day driving prohibitions and 30-day vehicle impounds.

Lerwick window smashing

On Feb. 18 the Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a mischief that occurred on the 1500 block of Lerwick Road, Courtenay.  Between 2:15 and 2:45 p.m., while the vehicle was parked, a window of a vehicle was broken. School zone speeding

While conducting speed enforcement on Lake Trail Road, on Feb. 22, a Comox Valley Traffic Section member observed a vehicle travelling at 77Km/h through a 30 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.

Damage to Cumberland fridge

On Feb. 22, the Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a theft/mischief on the 2600 Block of Dunsmuir Ave, Cumberland. Sometime over the past few days, an unknown person(s) had cut copper tubing from a refrigeration unit, causing extensive damage.
