On the evening of Sunday, February 5, the local RCMP detachment was alerted of a single vehicle collision occurring at the BC Ferries Terminal.
“The Prince Rupert RCMP received an initial report of a vehicle over the cliff and into the water off the BC Ferries Terminal ramp with someone in the water.” Said Constable Burns of the local detachment.
When RCMP members attended the scene around 10 p.m., they located a white former BC Hydro truck hanging off of a cliff near the off ramp to the ferry. The driver of the truck, and a passenger, were located in the cab of the vehicle, which thankfully had not reached the water during the accident. The two were rescued from the vehicle, with no injuries occurring.
Police say that alcohol was involved in this accident, with a twenty-four hour driving suspension being issued for the driver as well as the vehicle being towed.
