As an influx of people flock to the region for Funtastic, the RCMP is swinging out some extra resources, just in case.
The music festival and slo-pitch tournament, plus lawn bowling, goes Friday through Monday in Vernon, Enderby and Armstrong.
The event draw 300 teams, which amounts to approximately 4,500 ballplayers plus another 600 to 1,000 spouses and children.
Extra officers will be out in the region over the long weekend, although RCMP don’t anticipate too many problems.
“Up until now they have been very well behaved, however we have to plan should something happen so we have extra officers on prepared for that,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
“Generally what happens is they come here to have a good time, enjoy themselves and there are very little problems but we have to prepare for the worst and we are.”
Drivers across the region can also expect road checks.
“You can anticipate that you will encounter our people (RCMP) out on the highways and byways. We’re into a long weekend, a lot of people are on the roads travelling, so safety is paramount for our officers out there.”
Those taking in the entertainment and activities in the BudLight gardens at the DND grounds in the evenings can access a courtesy shuttle.
Buses will depart the beverage gardens starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until approximately 2 a.m.
Guests will be shuttled by bus to their destination within reason to campgrounds and accommodations throughout the community.
The free shuttle is provided by Funtastic and Vernon Home Building Centre in conjunction with the City of Vernon.
