Even right outside their door, Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP officers notice driving infractions.
So, last week, when a member of North Okanagan Traffic Services noticed a number of people driving by the Vernon RCMP detachment committing various offences, officers decided to set up shop outside their doors.
A road check was established at 30th Street and 35th Avenue – the main corner at the RCMP detachment – for 90 minutes.
“In that hour-and-a-half, our two officers wrote 12 seatbelt violation tickets,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
“They said a few additional lucky ones got away as they were busy writing the tickets.”
One person was also ticketed for using their cell phone while driving.
