Nakusp RCMP plan on checking for impaired driving in the upcoming holiday weekends, as they normally do.
“We do plan on having road blocks especially this weekend and the following weekend,” Constable Mark Macaulay told the Arrow Lakes News.
‘Tis the season to be jolly, and the RCMP want it to stay that way by discouraging impaired driving.
“There’s lots of people socializing,” recognized Macaulay, “We want to make sure that everyone’s travelling home safely.”
Now that school is out, and there are people taking time off for the holidays, there are more cars out on the road taking visitors to the homes of their friends and neighbours.
Macaulay hopes the RCMP road check campaign makes people plan ahead and enjoy their time off.
“Word gets out pretty quickly in a small town,” Macaulay said about road checks. He is hoping that news of the checks will get people to take advantage of the Nakusp taxi service or carpool with a designated driver.
For the most part, the seasonal road checks are a minor inconvenience some area residents are grateful for.
“They appreciate it,” said Macaulay, who has found that most people are thankful for the extra incentive that may discourage drivers from drinking.
Have a happy holiday, and stay safe on the roads this winter season.
