The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) and its directors will be inviting residents for their annual town hall meetings to discuss this year’s proposed budget, a five-year financial plan and how the RDKB operates.
RDKB Area D Director Irene Perepolkin noted that the Area D meeting is open to residents, taxpayers and interested parties.
“(The meetings) are mostly focused on how the regional district runs and the budget that’s coming for 2012,” explained Perepolkin. “They focus on Area D concerns, but the entire public is welcome to come.”
The public is encouraged to ask questions during the question and answer period at the end.
The purpose of the meeting is to give the public an idea about how the RDKB works, as opposed to the municipal government.
“We work on a service system and municipalities do not. It is a little different and it gives them an idea of how we run and what to expect from us,” stated Perepolkin.
Area C Director Grace McGregor added, “This is a yearly meeting to present the budget and budget changes. I have numerous community meetings and most people are aware of the challenges we are facing, especially with the milfoil budget.”
Area D town hall meeting will occur on Feb. 27 in the Senior’s Hall at City Park at 7 p.m., while Area C is scheduled to occur at Christina Lake on Feb. 29 at the Christina Lake Community Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Area E – Big White had its meeting on Friday, Feb. 24.
