RDN seeks guidance for Area F projects

Five-year Project Plan to be updated

Electoral Area F is updating its five-year plan that outlines projects in the community.

The project list are ranked from high to low priority and is reviewed every year to check the status of each work that is already underway and also look at new priorities.

The Regional District of Nanaimo staff is now requesting Area F Parks and Open Space Committee for its guidance on the five-year Project Plan. With the input provided by the POSAC, the plan will be updated and the timelines for each projects determined based on the RDN Parks Division’s work load and funding availability.

One of the high projects that are now being looked out is the Errington Community Park Master Plan that was initiated last year.

It includes the creation of a playground and a bike park on the former baseball field adjacent to the Errington Community Park.

Site survey and geotechnical review has been conducted and a conceptual master plan drawing is now in the works. Construction is expected in 2020.

Another project that is on the top of list is the Meadowood Community Centre. There is now a request for proposals for the project. Once a successful bidder is selected, construction will take place some time next year.

The funding sources for community parks are the Area F Community Parks Budget and reserve fund.
