In an increasingly uncertain time in the economy, the Regional District of Nanaimo is working on ways to enhance the area’s economic resilience.
To that end, the district has announced the launch of an industrial land supply and demand study to evaluate the long-term supply and demand of industrial land throughout the RDN.
“The regional growth strategy supports maintaining an attractive environment for industrial development while ensuring that land use, environmental protection, energy consumption and climate change goals are met,” said RDN chair Joe Stanhope. “This involves having a sufficient supply of industrial land that provides employment close to where workers live, and that can be supported by public transportation and utility infrastructure.”
The RDN has engaged a team of consultants, Urbanics Consultants Ltd. and HB Lanarc Golder, to conduct the study.
Industry, business and government stakeholders will be contacted to provide input into the study. However, the wider community is also welcome to provide comments and can review the study and its results at www.rdn.bc.ca.
