Reaching out to young adults

Forward House is hosting two new programs targeting young adults age 19 to 30.

The first is a Coffee House Social, which will be held weekly on Wednesday nights at Coyote’s Coffee in Parksville from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“We’re finding that a lot of people in that age range don’t come into Forward House so we’re trying to meet them in the community,” explained Forward House education and outreach co-ordinator Nicole Dudek.

She said the organization noticed a gap in the community.

Dudek said young adults come into Forward House but often feel out of place given the demographic is around age 50.

While the program is in its infancy, she said it will be a good opportunity for young adults to meet and socialize over a free cup of coffee.

Additionally, Forward House is hosting Young Adult Yoga in their new Dragonfly Den on Saturday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. weekly. Drop in will cost $5.

“We realize that there are very few community programs available for young adults, and we hope to fill that gap by starting with the coffee night and the Saturday morning Yoga,” said Forward House executive director Sharon Welch. “We hope to be able to add more recreation activities in the future. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated.”
