Visitors to the Vernon Recreation Centre will soon be able to walk through the front door.
The front entrance and main parking lot will open Monday after being closed since June 2015.
“This will be a soft opening as there are still a number of aspects of phase one to be completed, including final work on the registration office, landscaping, installation of benches, tables and the startup of the food kiosk,” said Doug Ross, director of recreation services.
Other aspects include a new bridge, flooring, lighting and air handling system.
The project will now move to phase two which includes the installation of disabled accessible doors at the west entrance and pool viewing area, as well as upgrades to flooring, lighting and storage.
“Starting Monday, the west entrance and hallway will be closed for the next six weeks to allow for phase two to be completed,” said Ross.
The public will now be directed to use the Performing Arts Centre and main parking lots on the east side of the creek and to access the facility through the new front entrance.
The total project cost is $1.3 million All of the work should be completed by May.
