Recycle Christmas trees Jan. 2–3

KidSport and the City of Port Alberni’s parks and rec department are teaming up to offer a Christmas tree chipping service again this season

KidSport and the City of Port Alberni’s parks and rec department are teaming up to offer a Christmas tree chipping service again this season.

“We’re encouraging people to drop their trees off and support KidSport,” says KidSport spokesperson Ron Doetzel.

“It saves them from having their tree sit in the backyard after Christmas.

“The trees will be chipped up by the parks department and will go into the parks composting program, primarily used for park landscaping,” Doetzel said.

The tree recycling depot will be set up on Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3 in the northwest parking lot at the AV Multiplex (on the Bob Dailey Stadium side) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for people to drop off their trees. Port Alberni firefighters will be there to you help your unload tree and throw it onto the pile, for a donation to KidSport.

Last year 200 trees were collected, and Doetzel would like to see more this year. “I thought it was a good start,” he said.
