A Vernon official still isn’t impressed with curbside recycling.
Coun. Scott Anderson raised ongoing concerns about the program during a presentation by Multi-Material B.C., which oversees recycling collection locally.
“We’re using a brick to hold things down. It’s 2015,” he said of paper and other materials blowing out of the bins and becoming litter.
Anderson suggested lids be placed on the containers to keep material from being caught by the wind, but MMBC says lids would keep drivers from seeing contaminated items.
“The material is being collected as requested and there is low contamination,” said Allan Langdon, MMBC managing director.
MMBC serves the North Okanagan except for Spallumcheen, the Okanagan Indian Band and about 3,000 multi-family households.
No changes in duties
Vernon council members have been appointed to committees for 2016 and there are few changes.
The city’s Regional District of North Okanagan representatives continue to be Mayor Akbal Mund and Councillors Catherine Lord, Juliette Cunningham and Brian Quiring, while Mund, Cunningham and Coun. Bob Spiers will go to the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee.
Coun. Dalvir Nahal is the council representative to the tourism advisory committee and Coun. Scott Anderson will be the liaison with the Canada Day committee.
In total, there are 30 committees or boards that council members are appointed to.
