On Sunday December 1, Red Apple in Fernie opened its doors for a day of Christmas shopping for children in what they hope would be the first of many annual Kid’s Shopping Days.
For a small donation, parents were invited to sign up to leave their children at the store with a list and money with which to Christmas shop. The children were then allowed to pick out gifts for loved ones on their own. The young shoppers were given blank paper and a supply of stickers, sparkling crayons and ribbons with which to make their unique Christmas paper. Store staff helped with wrapping the gifts when required.
Young Madison Sewell came from Elkford to shop for her parents, and had been looking forward to the trip since it was booked.
Stacey Bickford, manager of Red Apple, was excited about the prospect of making this an annual event. “This is our first annual Kid’s Shopping Day, and we hope it continues.”
Bickford is looking forward to next week’s Fill a Sleigh event as well.
“Wait until next week, Santa will be in the store from noon until 3:00 p.m., we will have a professional photographer, and our backdrop for Christmas photos.”
All proceeds from both the annual Kid’s Shopping Day and the Fill a Sleigh event go to Snow Valley Cheer, and 10 per cent of all toys sold will be donated to a charity chosen by the Red Apple staff.
