No bunny does it like the bunnies over at Red Apple. The Red Apple crew kicked it off again this year for their 2017, Red Apple Easter Seals Campaign on Monday. The group were all smiles as they welcomed The Observer at their store location in Agassiz while launching their big fundraiser to raise money for the disabled community.
Easter Seals is Canada’s biggest local provider of programs and services for the disabled and Red Apple is one of their biggest supporters.
“We raise money for Easter Seals Camp and it all stays in B.C. for kids with disabilities — it helps kids with their self-esteem and they get to try new things and we were number one in B.C. last year,” said Red Apple employee Alyshia Hope.
The store in Agassiz raised the most money last year in the province and they had the opportunity to attend Timmy’s Christmas Telethon in December.
The goal this year is to raise $2,200 over the coming weeks.
“The community does really good and they give a lot, we usually ask people for $2, but sometimes they will give more — I think the most someone gave us was $50,” said Hope.
After all is said and done the store usually puts on a big BBQ to celebrate with customers.
This year they are doing something a little different.
“Every weekend after this one we’re going to put on a bake sale and have pictures with an easter bunny for $5, we’ve already got an outfit and everything.”
Hope’s happy that it gives customers an alternative to driving to Chilliwack to see the big floppy eared guy.
The fundraiser goes from Mar. 20 to Apr. 16 and the community is encouraged to come on down to the store to enjoy a little easter cheer.
“We’re doing a draw for an easter basket, so anyone who makes a $2 donation or more can put their name in for a basket, and we’ll have two little baskets for kids, and we’ll do a colouring contest for them.”
