COOMBS — A Courtenay woman was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after being involved in a head-on motor vehicle crash on Tuesday.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said the incident happened at 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 4 and 4A.

He said the woman was turning left in her Mazda on a green light when her vehicle was slammed head-on into by a Kia Sorento driven by a 31-year-old Qualicum Beach man.

“He went through the intersection on a red light as the woman was making her left,” van de Pol said. “The woman was taken to hospital in Nanaimo, where she was treated and released.”

Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage.

Van de Pol said the male driver has been charged with failing to obey a red light at an intersection.
