Reduced number of calls signals summer is drawing to an end

Creston RCMP responded to 76 calls for service from August 22-28, Cpl Darren Kakuno said on Tuesday. The number of calls is significantly lower than recent weeks, a sure sign that summer is drawing to an end.

August 22

• A female was given a 24-hour driving prohibition for having consumed alcohol and also got a ticket for driving without due care after crashing her vehicle in the 4400 block of Highway 3 in Erickson.

• Police were unable to locate a male reported to be yelling at a female in Millennium Park.

• Charges are being considered after a backyard fire in the 400 block of 10th Avenue North drew a visit from Creston Fire Department. Residents were instructed to douse the fire and the investigation continues.

• Squatters near the Kidd Creek forest service road had moved on before police arrived.

• A single vehicle rollover on Highway 3 at 33rd Avenue South in Erickson drew a response from police, fire and ambulance personnel. The lone female driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the investigation continues.

August 23

• The owner of a vehicle abandoned at the Kootenay Bay ferry terminal was instructed to remove it.

• A road maintenance crew worker was taken to hospital after his foot was run over by a piece of equipment on Lakeview-Arrow Creek Road near Highway 3.

• Police are investigating an incident near the Canyon-Lister fire hall after a dog bit a cyclist, who required medical attention as a result.

• A male was removed from a residence in the 1200 block of Erickson Road when police responded to a report of a disturbance. No charges are being pursued.

August 24

• Police did not find youths reported to be on the roof of the post office.

• Charges are being considered after a fire in a barrel got away from a Williams Road resident and spread to the surrounding grass.

• Police were unable to locate a reported yellow side-by-side quad that was reported near the US border.

• A driver was taken to hospital for assessment after he was rear ended by a vehicle while slowing to make a left turn in the 4400 block of Highway 3A in Wynndel. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

• The owner of barking dogs on Pump Road agreed to put the animals inside when police responded to a complaint.

August 25

• Police have not determined if mail was stolen when a group mailbox was found open at 14th Street and Sinclair Road in Lister.

• A stop check on Erickson Road nabbed a driver who failed a roadside screening test for alcohol consumption. He was given a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

August 26

• An adult male reported missing from the Kokanee Springs Golf Resort was located safe in Alberta.

• A stop check on Canyon-Lister Road led to a driver receiving a three-day driving prohibition.

August 27

• During a stop check on Highway 3/95 near Yahk a prohibited driver was found to be at the wheel of a vehicle. The driver faces a charge and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

• Police have identified a driver reported to have endangered two pedestrians on Northwest Boulevard while speeding. The investigation continues.

• Police did not locate a youth riding a dirt bike on Hwy. 3A in Wynndel.

August 28

• An abandoned snowmobile was located on the Gray Creek forest service road.

• A male was arrested in Erickson after breaching a no contact order. He now faces more charges.

• When police responded to a report of an assault in progress on 44th Street in Canyon they arrested a female who was breaking court conditions. She now faces charges for assault and breaching an undertaking.
