The Chautauqua Program Series is marching into 2021 with an extension of the Fabrics of History exhibit and the launch of the thirteenth-annual Reel Canadian Film Festival.

According to Rebecca Hall, Fernie Museum administrator and marketing coordinator, the Reel Canadian Film Festival will be entirely virtual this year, running from Jan. 25 until Jan. 31.

Pass holders will have access to six feature films and 10 shorts throughout the week, featuring a variety of flicks from French-language features to Indigenous productions, comedies and dramas.

“You can watch them in any order, any night – you can watch them all in one night if you want, or just watch one a night,” said Hall.

Movies in year’s line up include Quebexit, First We Eat, Jasmine Road, and No Ordinary Man.

Prices for passes run at $25 for individual viewers and $40 for households.

“We are still paying full price for the films to support the industry, so we really hope we’ll get lots of passes sold – even if you’re only going to watch a couple of movies, it’s still worth it and we really do have some great content this year,” added Hall.

The event is open to residents of both Alberta and British Columbia. Those participating must have access to a device such as a smart TV, laptop, or phone.

The Fabrics of History exhibit, hosted by the Fernie Spinners and Weavers Guild, is being extended until Jan. 24.

“It’s such an engaging exhibit – it’s visually appealing, the information is really interesting and people just seem to be loving it – so we really wanted people to get a chance to see it and enjoy it,” said Hall.

“We are even having some little demonstrations so that when people visit they can meet one of the artists and talk to them a little bit about the exhibit,” added Hall.

Artist Elin Holvik is next to perform a live card weaving demonstration on Jan. 10 from noon until 4 p.m.
