An environmental organization battered by the weather has received support.
The Regional District of North Okanagan will back the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre when it seeks funding from government and other agencies to recover from a landslide May 2.
“Hopefully we can help them get back on their feet,” said director Jackie Pearase.
Substantial damage occurred when Cooke Creek burst its banks, sending a torrent of mud, water and trees through the centre and into the Shuswap River.
A no occupancy sign has been put on-site due to the danger of the slide and the possibility more debris may come tumbling down.
Pearase, the Splatsin First Nation and centre officials recently met with Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo to discuss the need to repair the damage so the facility can continue to enhance the salmon population.
RDNO will ask the provincial government to provide the centre with financial assistance.
“We think they should come to the party,” said Pearase.
