The Regional District of Nanaimo is on pace to sign a $240,000, one-year extension with Shaw Electrical Services for on-call services at wastewater facilities.
Shaw Electrical was the successful proponent of an April 2015 request for proposals, and according to Sean De Pol, manager of wastewater services, the regional district has four wastewater treatment plants, 30 pump stations and a pair of septic waste receiving sites, all of which have electrical components.
The regional district doesn’t have any in-house electricians, he said. Work can also involve anything from light bulbs, to pumps, to wiring, De Pol said.
The money will come from the operation and maintenance budget and Shaw Electrical will increase its labour rate by 3.75 per cent.
Regional district directors are expected to vote on the extension at Tuesday’s (April 26) meeting and if approved, the deal would run from June 1 to May 31, 2017.
