Regional District of Nanaimo directors are recommending that the 2017 budget include $25,000 for the Island Roots Market Co-op.
The co-operative wants to establish a year-round farmers’ market at Beban Park and in a press release, said the money will go toward floor and site plans, design sketches, a quantity surveyor, civil engineer and if necessary, geotechnical and landscaping consultation.
The work will provide the co-op with a cost estimate for the project, it said.
The recommendation is expected to go before the regional district board at its Jan. 24 regular meeting for final approval.
