The Regional District of Nanaimo has extended a biosolids management deal with Vancouver Island University and SYLVIS Environmental Inc. until May.
The regional district entered into the agreement with the two parties in February 2013. Under the terms of the contract, organic material from the RDN pollution control centre wastewater treatment is used by the university’s forestry department as fertilizer. The deal was set to expire on March 31, but the district board voted to extend the deal until May 31.
The regional district said it is looking to establish a longer-term deal after the extension expires.
