Regional District of Nanaimo grants-in-aid announced

Sometimes, the answer to funding requests at the RDN has to be no

The Regional District of Nanaimo has given provisional approval for several grants in aid.

In District 69, Forward House Community Society asked for and got $1,242 to buy new, energy-efficient windows for their facility, while Nanoose Bay Catspan had their request of $4,950 denied, pending further information about whether the problem of feral cats is decreasing or increasing.

The North Island Wildlife Recovery Association asked for $3,000 and was granted $2,727 to replace flooring in the public education area. The Oceanside Community Arts Council however had their request for $4,950 denied, as the building they were hoping to upgrade is deemed to be very old and in need of a large amount of work.

The Oceanside Hospice Society asked for $5,000 to purchase new laptop computers and accompanying software and received $2,000 to that end. The Parksville and District Association for Community Living asked for $2,000 to buy program supplies and they were granted $1,200. The Parksville and District Historical Society was not as fortunate, as their request for $600 to replace kitchen flooring was denied.

Finally, the Qualicum Bay Lions Club asked for and received $5,000 to renovate washrooms in their facility.
